The program's interface looks very dated and is reminiscent of Windows 95. Not surprisingly, it's not particularly intuitive, and in general its layout feels somewhat cluttered and clunky. To its credit, the program does open with a brief explanation of its features, allowing users to get started without too much trouble. The program offers three different database templates for users to choose from; Basic and Detailed (there's very little difference between these two), and a template to organize Web sites. The program makes it easy to rename fields within the templates, and a separate, included program called Designer allows users to edit templates and create new ones. The built-in Help file is well-written.
There is nothing functionally wrong with Sports Card Organizer Deluxe, we're just not sure we see the point. The interface isn't pleasing to the modern eye, and there are many other database programs out there that could be used for the same purpose. Although the program includes templates specific to sports cards, they're really nothing special and could be easily duplicated elsewhere. Sports Card Organizer Deluxe has a 30-day trial period. It installs desktop icons without asking and leaves a folder behind upon removal. We recommend this program with reservations; it's not bad, but there are likely much better alternatives. The publisher imposes such strict demo limitations on this baseball card collection organizer that you might think it offers some revolutionary features that must be closely guarded. The truth is that Baseball Card Collector Professional offers only the most standard database options, and not all of them worked particularly well. Its interface is neatly organized and requires no explanation for how to use it, although it's not very visually appealing. You can enter basic details in the eight fields, including player, position, and cost, and indicate whether you want to trade, keep, or sell the card.
Baseball Card Collector Professional has the ability to add images to records, but this rather ordinary feature isn't available in the trial version. It also limits you to 10 records.
Despite the low number of records, we ran into problems with the sort and search tools, the most basic of features. You can export records in HTM and XLS formats only. Baseball Card Collector Professional is easy to use, we'll give it that, but its ordinary set of features and spotty performance overshadow its one positive.
