Reply by howardferns on February 21, 2015 Agreed, OneNote Online is useless if like me you have a new computer with forced-on-you Windows 8.1 and a 5 years old laptop with XP. Same goes for Office Online and all the other Windows online stuff. You can install a desktop client for OneDrive on 8.1 but it's no use without being able to install it on you XP machine as well.

Microsoft now twist your arm just like Google. But don't despair. Beg, borrow or steal a copy of MS Office 2007 and install your beloved OneNote 2007 on 8.1, make yourself a desktop shortcut for it, then you can use it just as you used to. What I haven't tried yet is syncing the notebooks with Dropbox, hubiC, etc so I don't know if that will work.
