I mistakenly set the file association for LNK files to Notepad. Every icon on the desktop changed to the default Notepad icon. Every link I clicked opened the LNK file in Notepad - no surprise there!

Nov 04, 2012 I mistakenly set the file association for LNK files to Notepad. Every icon on the desktop changed to the default Notepad icon. Every link I clicked opened. Here is how to fix and restore back the default file association. So when I got the problem of all my.EXE files turned to.LNK.

In a moment of inspiration and intrepidness, I had what I thought was a brilliant stroke of common sense - I associated the LNK files with Windows Explorer!!! Yes, please laugh until your belly aches and your extremely short of breath. So, how do I reset the file associations to default values? Otherwise, I'll have to trudge through a Clean Install.
