Sidewinder Game Port To Usb Adapter
Posted By admin On 26.10.19I too would like to have my perfectly working sidewinder force feedback pro for gameport joystick work with windows 'anything above xp' but that would require microsoft to update their drivers for the 'Unsupported Standard Game Port' to a 'Standard Game Port' driver. I still can't understand why they stopped support for it in the first place. Yes there are some USB adapters that can allow limited connectivity to gameport devices but not with the force feedback function, functioning, which kind of defeats the object of the exercise. This subject is covered in.
I have a Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Pro joystick that I would liek to use with my Windows 7 PC, but I need some kind of adapter that will allow me to use USB. I want to connect the joystick to a PC with no game ports, only USB, running Windows 7 Home Premium. I need to find a suitable converter cable, so i can check whether.
I have a bunch of old SideWinder gamepads and a SideWinder Force Feedback Pro sitting in my closet. I'd like to get them working again, but I'd like to convert them to USB.
I did a bunch of searching and I found this Belkin USB adapter for Sidewinder. But I can't find any more info on it, or even a real picture of it. It does not say what Sidewinder it works with. Just the gamepad? All the SideWinders including my FF Pro?
Curious if anyone else here has had more experiece or luck with getting info on this. I know, I already have other USB joysticks that work fine, but I kinda miss the feel of the FF Pro. Being it's a digtal joystick, a standard analog gampoert to usb adapter will not work.
I'm tempted just to spend the 5 bucks on this Belkin adapter and find out for myself if it actually works or not. Member Posts: 387 Joined: 2004-10-22 @ 18:42 Location: Minneapolis, MN.
According to my previous investigations these convertor devices would work with simple devices such as gamepads but not with complex devices such as wheels. I wouldn't get too excited about the joystick working either but hey for $5 I think it's worth trying. I've got a Sidewinder Pro Joystick (no FFB) which came with a Microsoft badged gameport-USB convertor. I tried it on a MS FFB gameport wheel and it did not work at all (wheel wasn't recognised by the OS - Win2K). Oldbie Posts: 557 Joined: 2003-8-07 @ 00:32. I don't know why Microsoft's excellent hardware couldn't have been adapated so it ran on PC and XBox.
Maybe they thought it was too expensive for the target consumer so instead they ditched the entire product line I own 3 MS ForceFeedback Wheels (now all USB after finding that my Gameport wheel version didn't give FF on XP - note that the quality as the well as the price dropped when they released the USB version.) and a FF2 Joystick. I'm expecting them to be consigned to the skip when Longhorn finally hits the disks next year or so which will be a sad day!

It plugs into the USB connector on your computer, or a USB Hub. The unit has a 15-pin connector, the same as the gameport connector on older PCs. The converter is powered from the USB port.
TYPICAL APPLICATIONS: The RM-203 has a 4-mode switch. Mode 1 is used with a type TM-FCS controller.
Mode 2 is used with a CH FLIGHTSTICK PRO controller. Mode 3 is used with a 2-4 AXIS 4-BUTTON controller. TripTik Travel Planner. Mode 4 is used with a 2 AXIS 8-BUTTON controller. Right, that will work fine for old Thrustmaster analog joysticks.

But the Sidewinder uses a digital protocol that is different from any other analog joystick. Someone would need to make the converter know that protocol and convert it to the usb hid standard. Since only microsoft knows the details of the prootcol, it would need some reverse engineering. The sidewinder gamepad had an analog mode for DOS games, but the sidewinder force feedback did not. Even if it did work in analog mode, I would loose force feedback support. That is mainly what I was trying to preserve.
